State was produced for a group exhibition in collaboration with the Structural Genomics Consortium - a scientific research facility in Oxford.
State confronts the fear, both rational and irrational, that Western society experiences regarding pathogens and contamination.
Through visions of apocalypse, the work addresses the increasing state of tension and uncertainty surrounding what our future holds.
On a personal level, the work is also an exploration of a preoccupation with contaminants and the way in which a tendency towards obsessive-compulsive behaviours manifests.
This self-analysis, which imitates and parallels scientific method, produces a metaphorical narrative within the isolated and allegorical nature of the domestic setting.
The group exhibition 'Breakthrough: A Collaboration Between Art and Science' was due to be open from 26 - 29 March at OVADA gallery space in Oxford for public viewing. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown but was presented as an online show instead.
